Ref this article – Although WHO has no concluding remarks on the research undertaken, the author of the WHO report suggests, main priority should be to provide safe drinking water. We have now identified two villages to provide with RO machines and have funds available to provide one machine. We are now awaiting the outcome from Lions Clubs International on our matching grant application for the second RO Machine. The proposed machine has the capacity to provide cleaner water for 1,000 families (about 3,000 – 4,000 people). The project will be handled by Registered Community Based Organisations formed by respective villages. We are conducting this project together with our twinned club, Lions Club of Wattala, District 306B1, Sri Lanka.
Our President Lion Mohan Nanayakkara together with Past District Governor Lion Lakshman Wijesinghe of Lions Club of Wattala visited one of the villages earmarked to provide a RO Machine and had discussions with the community.
