Community Service Award

Community Service Award

Lions Club of West Pennant Hills-Cherrybrook

Outstanding Service to Community Award to Secondary School Student.

Background Information

Lions Club International was formed in 1917 with the following mission statement:

Mission statement

“To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation.”

Today our 46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members in 206 countries make us the world’s largest service club organization. Members of Lions Clubs do whatever is needed to help their local communities.

Lions Club of West Pennant Hills-Cherrybrook would like to encourage and motivate the youths in our community to get involved rendering self-less community service. One of the ways this can be done is to work with local schools in making annual awards at their prize giving nights to a student identified by the school for their outstanding community service.

Selection of Students

Project Chairperson to contact the local Secondary Schools and discuss their participation in the Award at the beginning of the third quarter. Schools would identify one student  each from their school who in their opinion have done outstanding community service and deserve the Award and communicate to Lions Project Chairperson the following information:

• Name of the student

• Grade

• Brief description of the Community Service undertaken by the student.

Making the Award

The Club would present to the selected student a certificate from the Club recognising the outstanding community service and make donation to charity of student’s choice for $500. The Lions Club would prefer to present this Award at the school’s prize giving ceremony. Presenting the Award in front of the whole school would provide encouragement other students to get involved in the community service.
